Despite a more challenging global economic backdrop, leading to RevPAR growth moderating, increasing room supply illustrates the positive fundamentals for the industry overall, such as increasing disposable incomes and growing appetite for branded hotels.
The $535 billion hotel industry continues to be fragmented, with 54% of rooms affiliated with a global or regional chain. Competition among branded players continues to increase as companies seek growth through acquisitions, organic expansion and diversification in their offer.
Evolving consumer expectations in areas such as sustainability, luxury and technology continue to influence how the industry operates, whilst increasing digital commerce has led to a broader competitive landscape involving online travel intermediaries, serviced apartments and peer-to-peer home rental companies.
2019 Industry performance
In terms of key performance metrics, room supply reflects how attractive the hotel industry is as an investment from an owner’s perspective. RevPAR is an important indicator of the value guests ascribe to a given hotel, brand or market, and grows when guests stay more often or pay higher rates.
2019 saw the industry delivering its 10th year of consecutive RevPAR growth at +1% globally, slower than previous years due in part to lower growth in the global economy. In a slower RevPAR environment, rooms supply growth becomes an important driver of value creation for hotel groups. In 2019, global rooms supply grew by +2%, driven by attractive owner returns across a number of segments.
The hotel industry is cyclical; long-term fluctuations in RevPAR tend to reflect the interplay between industry demand, supply and the macroeconomic environment. At a local market level, political, economic and factors such as terrorism, oil market conditions and hurricanes can impact demand and supply in the short term.
IHG Hotels & Resorts, also referred to as IHG, is without a doubt one of the biggest hotel chains in the world with close to 6,000 locations spread throughout more than 100 nations.
Some of the most successful hotel brands in the world, such as Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites, and Crowne Plaza, are the brainchild of the British-based corporation. The bulk of our top options to redeem IHG One Rewards points are offered by IHG, which also includes a number of luxury brands including InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.
In this tutorial, we’ll examine IHG’s 17 brands and discuss the nuances that distinguish each one , 4 collections, 17 brands, and 6,000 destinations.
Social Responsibility Performance of the company

IHG® Hotels & Resorts is one of the world’s leading hotel companies, with around 325,000 colleagues working across more than 100 countries to deliver True Hospitality for Good. IHG Hotels & Resorts is a global hospitality company as we focus on using our scale and expertise to create exceptional guest experiences and strong hotel owner returns that keep our brands growing in the world’s best markets. Making “Great Hotels Guests Love” requires taking responsibility for the environment, the communities in which we operate, and acting morally. Being an ethical business requires all of this. It’s about growing our business while having a beneficial influence on the globe. We’re talking about better lives, better communities, and better environments. Therefore, when you choose an IHG hotel, you are picking a company that shares your values.
System IHG Green Engage
We’ve made it simple for you to stay at a hotel that upholds your principles since we understand how important sustainability is to both of us. The IHG Green Engage system, a cutting-edge online environmental sustainability system that gives our hotels the tools to evaluate and manage their environmental effect, is used by all of our hotels. The hotels have access to more than 200 “Green Solutions” that can help them lower their energy, water, and waste usage and lessen their environmental impact. Our hotels can earn one of four levels of accreditation through the IHG Green Engage program, and those who do so can save their energy use by up to 25%.
The 4 pillars of the un global compact
The UN Global Compact is a principle-based framework for businesses, stating ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption.
Our method for conducting ethical business
What it means to run a responsible business is still being defined. Stakeholders pay more attention than ever to a company’s operations, responsible behavior, growth, and ambition to bring about positive change for the common good. These factors are expected to be woven into the business model. IHG is aware of and appreciates the significance of this. Together, by actively listening to and interacting with our stakeholders, we work toward shared objectives that ensure we are generating value for everyone.
We regularly carry out a materiality evaluation to direct our efforts and guarantee that we are giving the highest priority to the problems that are most crucial to IHG’s long-term development. Our 2020 assessment was crucial. IHG and the world at large are the primary goals of our 2030 Journey to Tomorrow plan, which emphasizes bringing about constructive change. Alongside this, a rapidly expanding number of organizations have taken external commitments for environmental and social change, and business clients are also routinely seeking information on environmentally friendly options for meetings and lodging to advance their own goals.
The pages that follow show how our dedication to our purpose, values, behaviors, workplace culture, risk appetite, and strong governance and accountability support our approach to responsible business before outlining our progress in relation to our Journey to Tomorrow strategy. To learn more about the findings of our materiality investigation, our 2030 Journey to Tomorrow plan, which emphasizes bringing about constructive change, has as its main objectives IHG and the world at large.

The pages that follow demonstrate how our commitment to our purpose, values, behaviors, workplace culture, risk appetite, and strong governance and accountability complement our strategy for doing business responsibly before summarizing our development in light of our Journey to Tomorrow strategy. Carbon & energy IHG and the world at large are the primary targets of our 2030 Journey to Tomorrow initiative, which places an emphasis on bringing about positive change.
Additionally, a rapidly expanding number of businesses have publicly committed to bringing about social and environmental change, and in order to promote their own goals, company clients routinely seek out information on green meeting and lodging options. The pages that follow show how our dedication to our mission, values, habits, workplace culture, risk tolerance, and strong governance and accountability support our approach for conducting business responsibly. After that, we summarize our progress considering our Journey to Tomorrow strategy.
In order to learn more about the findings of our materiality research, waste, our 2030 Journey to Tomorrow program, which emphasizes bringing about positive change, has as its principal aims IHG and the world as a whole.
In addition, an ever-growing number of companies have made public commitments to enacting social and environmental change, and to advance their own objectives, clients of these companies constantly look for information on environmentally friendly meeting and lodging options. The pages that follow demonstrate how our commitment to our mission, values, behaviors, work environment, risk tolerance, and solid governance and accountability complement our strategy for conducting business responsibly. Then, considering our Journey to Tomorrow strategy, we give a summary of our results.
A summary of our interactions with our stakeholders in 2021 can be found on the webpage indicated below:
Water, With demand for water already exceeding supply in many parts of the world, it’s important we continue to limit the amount we use in our hotels and also help ensure a clean, reliable supply for our communities, Water stress impacts more than 40% of the global population, and according to the UN, this figure is set to rise in the coming years. Operating and growing sustainably as a business means only using our fair share of water, so we work to incorporate water-efficiency measures into both our existing hotel operations and new properties to preserve and conserve this precious resource. Each of our hotels has a water-reduction target, and, as part of the IHG Green Engage system, has access to green solutions, which can help to improve water efficiencies, such as low-flow fixtures and fittings. Owners also receive accurate and timely data on usage via an automated data-entry tool, which has been developed through our work with Schneider Electric in 2021. We have taken important steps to achieve our water-reduction targets, but recognise that while consumption in our hotels fell by 13% in 2021, this was primarily driven by the reduced occupancy in some markets due to the ongoing pandemic.
Supporting our communities, Giving back to the communities that our thousands of hotels are a part of is important to us all at IHG because it reflects our aim of providing True Hospitality for Good. Therefore, we are taking advantage of the chance to better the lives of millions of people, whether it be by battling food poverty, providing support during natural disasters, or promoting social and economic reform. Before the epidemic hit, one in ten jobs worldwide were employed by the growing travel and tourism sector. As we move into better times, our size and position as a global company allow us to contribute to solving some of the most difficult problems in the world.
We place a great deal of importance on our strategic alliances with local and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), which enable IHG to respond to emergencies, combat food insecurity, and give people access to opportunities for employment and valuable skills that can foster social and economic development.
Together, the steps we are taking are part of our 10-year goal to use our global scale to work locally with our hotels, and we encourage and support their own collaborations and causes.
Innovative Proposals
My 2022 -2024 targets are established two years goals, where at the end of 2024 they will serve as a roadmap for moving forward with the responsible business strategy.
People and communities: Growing and learning
It is crucial that everyone feels included in a welcomed in a safe setting. This can be achieved by providing direction and support and ensuring that they have the skills and resources needed to grow and develop their careers, IHG empowers employees to experiment and attempt new things. By 2024, I will work on offering all of these resources via an online learning suite that includes MyLearning, Harvard Manage-Mentor, and virtual classes. In addition to that, line managers and mentors will meet with their subordinates quarterly throughout the year to get feedback on their work and to talk about career growth and objectives.
Human rights:
training and risk detection
We have continued to develop our human rights-related training to concentrate on those employees (particularly those working in front-line hotels) and areas of our business that are crucial in controlling the risks to human rights. 49,000 coworkers worldwide completed the Preventing Human Trafficking training program in 2022, which was created by ECPAT USA and Polaris.
All IHG-branded hotels received the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance training on responsible recruitment in 2022, and all human resources colleagues and hiring managers were encouraged to do so in order to sustain responsible recruitment practices.
By concentrating attention and efforts on a common goal, collaborative initiatives can address dangers to human rights and promote systemic change. For instance, IHG and our hotels in Qatar collaborated on the creation of “Promoting Fair Recruitment and Employment: A Guidance Tool for Hotels in Qatar” with the Qatari government, foreign organizations, and members of the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance. The platform, which will be released in 2022, offers a variety of resources for hotels, including sector-specific advice for interacting with labor suppliers and service providers and simple checklists to promote ethical hiring procedures throughout the sector.
Supporting our communities :
Providing support in times of natural disaster
I will assist in preparing our lodgings and local areas for natural disasters and donate money to help with emergency response when necessary.
One of these charity partners is the Saudi Red Crescent, which helps with community preparation, lifesaving in the aftermath, and helping individuals get back on their feet.
Protecting the environment
Carbon and energy
I will start my proposal based on 2030 vision for renewable energy The collaborative commitment to address present and future energy and climate challenges in an innovative and responsible manner is fueled by Vision 2030. During the Saudi G20 Presidency, G20 leaders supported the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) framework. CCE is a closed-loop system that combats climate change while furthering sustainable development and encouraging economic diversification. It is built on reducing, reusing, recycling, and eliminating carbon. The international community will be able to pursue sustainable growth and balance the sustainability requirements of both energy and climate by reducing emissions and increasing the usage of carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
With Saudi Arabia’s impressive natural potential for solar and wind power and through strategic investments in sustainable technologies, signature projects have been launched to diversify energy resources and optimize the Kingdom’s energy mix. By 2030, the contribution of renewable energy to the overall energy mix will reach up to 50%. Renewable energy projects are one of the key drivers towards achieving sustainability that will contribute to avoiding emissions and the displacement of high-value fuel in electricity generation. I will use the top:
the top 5 sources Solar energy from the sun.
Geothermal energy from heat inside the earth.
Wind energy.
Biomass from plants.
Hydropower from flowing water.
Advantage of renewable energy

The importance of stakeholders in innovation
Stakeholders can create highly creative products and services at affordable prices while building capabilities that might otherwise be expensive or difficult to create, Four key parties are involved in the innovation process: academics, business, government, and society. They occasionally pursue the same aims and occasionally pursue distinct ones. They rather frequently employ various methods to accomplish them.
SDG will support my proposals without spending money:
limit company consumption – spread the word – transport the sustainability – Give companies who support SDGs top priority-recycle -learn yourself.
Strategy Map
Financial: our goal in the future is to reduce the costs and increase profits – maximize shareholders value.
Customer: improve the customer or guest experience – inspire loyalty.
Internal business process: improving the quality of work – sequence of service maximize operational effectiveness and create quality partnership.
Learning & growth: train employee – recruit quality employee.

Conclusion
To conclude, it can be said that sustainable development brings out stability in the requirements of the environment. It makes the resources available for use for the future generations. Sustainable development is an amazing way to conserve the resources provided by nature
