Herbert Spencer believed that humans in all groups and races are subjected to survival of the fittest or as we like to call it natural selection (Oates, 1988). Highly competitive social systems are examples of social Darwinism because there is constantly someone working to beat another person out in order to be the best or at the top of the food chain in a way. Differentiation discusses that as society continues on, we will consistently see that the members will become diverse for one another but we will also see that everyone will slowly begin to rely on these other individuals in order to exceed/survive (Oates, 1988). Highly competitive social systems show that those that are the higher positions, are usually the more wealthier ones but we also can see the competitiveness as a good things because people are more likely to work harder to get to a higher position thus the society is ultimately more successful because everyone is working harder.
Do you think that too much competition could harm society rather than strengthen it once it reaches a certain point?
